I am so honored to have been asked to "style" a VIP for Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in NYC next month! While she was in town today, we were able to meet up in my studio and at Yaya Chique! I fit her in several GREAT outfits for her during all her party events and fashion shows she will be attending....along with designing some jewelry for her to wear!

Here is a peek into one of the outfits she will be showcasing on behalf of not only "debi lynn designs", but also Yaya Chique!!!!

(The jewelry is still in the design stage, but she was able to help select the main focal point on each new piece! She was like a kid in a candy store....)

What do you get when you combine, tattered vintage silk, tattered vintage linen, tattered leather and beautiful beads???

You get "Bayou Romance" from debi lynn designs!

This is just a sample of the new colors coming...all limited editions! There will be necklaces, bracelets and earrings!

And then there is my newest "one-of-a-kind" collection called "Depths of the Earth"!

All designed using leather wrapped fossils from Russia!

my "Boot Scootin' Bags" that is! I showcased the original "altered boot top purse" in 1993 and received my official "trademark label" on these bags in 1994. They had been featured in many national magazines and was often seen on TV shows and movies. In fact, it was the "Boot Scootin' Bag" that was a hit with the celebrities and all of a sudden I had a very looooong list of celebrities that owned these "one-of-a-kind" bags.

I only use "new" boots (would not dream of cutting up vintage boots---unless a customer asked), I inlay a wood gusset (covered in leather) on the bottom, all of the beaded fringe is HAND DONE (no factory beading here), painted with high quality leather paints, inlaid with stones, rivets, nail heads, etc...AND I designed the handle to be removable and worn as a necklace!

I know there are a lot of people out there that started doing these after I brought them out, and that is okay....they still would never be a "debi lynn original".

When everyone else started making them, I pulled my off the design table and knew that someday I would bring them back....but, with a bit of a new twist. I have been asked many times "when are you going to do the Boot Scootin' bags again"? and I can say that for 2012 they are BACK!!! And if you are at WESA next week...make sure you stop by the showroom (Material Things, Inc. Ste. 3363 & 3364) to take a peek at these and all of my 2012 Spring/Summer Collection!

I grew up along the sensuous bayous of south-central Louisiana (that means north of I-10 and south of Alexandria)....my grandparents were Creole/Red Bone, and it was a pretty colorful culture! My father's side of the family was from Frisco City, Alabama and were Muskogee Creek. I spent many a summer there playing in the creeks along the Alabama River...in fact, my father went to school with Harper Lee (the author of To Kill a Mockingbird)....and the places and people she wrote about in that book.... were actual places that I would play and meet some of the people she based her characters on.

I was taught the spiritual believes of both these cultures...and they have and are still, a HUGE part of my believes and journey.

Summer time in Alabama

I remember the days of living paycheck to paycheck....not knowing where my next meal would come, much less how to pay for it when it did. Then a wonderful man literally "danced" his way into my life....and my life was forever changed! (We have been together for over 25 years!)

My family and I have been so blessed throughout the years...both monetary and health. However, I have never forgotten where I came from and it is with that journey that I tell you this about my myself----

My hubby and I have 3 companies....one being our "major" company, and the other two being my design label, "debi lynn designs" and my store front, "Yaya Chique". Here is what you may not know....I do not take a salary or ANY compensation from either my design line or my store! I first pay all my bills, my staff and taxes...and what is ever left over is given to charity.

People ask me all the time, "How do you keep your prices so low?", and when I reply that I don't take a salary...they offend me by saying---"Oh, so this is a hobby?". NO, this is my passion....my way of taking my gift from God and giving it back. I take only what I need (such as for bills) and then give the rest away. I have been doing this since 1994....is it a lot of money? not really in some standards I guess....but, it is more than what I had to start with.

I am only a person that was taught the path of spirituality from 2 very spiritual cultures, and everything I do or feel is taken in by the universe and that the "Master of our Breath" (God) will provide me with what I need, and I am to give the rest to those that have a need greater than myself.

I do not expect everyone to understand this or may even think I am crazy....and I know it is not for everyone because they don't have another company to rely on for their living. But, since I do----that is why I would feel "greedy" if I took more than what I need.

I am so thankful to all of you that support my designs and my store....because without YOU, I wouldn't be able to do what I love, and most of all----I wouldn't be able to "pay it forward"!

Getting ready for 2012!

I know, I know...why in the world am I already thinking of 2012 when Christmas is not even here yet? Well, as a designer & store owner we are always having to think & plan ahead.

2012 is approaching fast and has been a controversy of fear & doom for some time now....but, I want to go into next year with an upbeat & positive attitude! My inspiration for next year is based on "romance & simplicity". I will still be true to my "look & style"...but, will put a unique "twist" on it.

Here is a peek as to where not only my designs will be headed...but, also my store---"Yaya Chique"!

Think layers, romance, leathers, metals, and most of all "softness & simplicity".....All inspired by the ocean & shells!

I am so honored to have found out yesterday, that Giuliana Rancic loves her "debi lynn designs"! She wore several of my pieces for a photo shoot regarding a magazine editorial. However, because the issue and pictures have not been "officially" released until the spring issue....I am not allowed to show any pictures....but, I promise to show them when they are "officially" published.

I am honored to know that the fashion icon herself is in love with my work!!! Thank you so much Giuliana!!!!

This benefit fashion show is to be held in San Diego which raises funds to help victims of domestic violence. I have known the owners of Studio Seven Productions for years, and as always they have done a spectacular job! The models (which are my friends) are David Midthunder, his wife Angelique, and their daughter....I felt as a family they were truly able to bring life to my work, and they are extremely nice and down-to-earth people!

Things are really busy here in the studio! My PR firm is keeping me on my toes....lots of great "pulls" of my work from many celebrities and magazines, I just can't release any information until the media comes out with it or the press has released it.
